Giant Steps Tasmania accepts students with an Autism Spectrum
Disorder (ASD), as diagnosed by a suitably qualified Medical
Practitioner. Giant Steps Tasmania gives priority to students who
require extensive or substantial levels of adjustment as defined by
the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with
Disability (NCCD). The NCCD is an annual collection of information about
Australian school students who are receiving adjustments due to
disability.
Eligibility can be a complex issue and some consultation may be required.
Giant Steps Tasmania accepts students with with a diagnosis of Autism regardless of sex,
race, socio-economic status, and place of residence. Students must be 5
as of the 1st of January of the year of enrolment. This is the first
full-time year of schooling in Tasmania. Giant Steps Tasmania
will not accept any student for placement whose needs cannot be
adequately met by the school’s resources.
