Each child has their own individual program tailored to their needs. Programs can include specialist services ranging from speech therapy and occupational therapy to dance and music.
Our staff frequently attend professional development sessions to ensure the use of information technology devices reflects best practice and the choice of applications used are assessed for quality, innovation and application.
Giant Steps Tasmania's staff have received professional development to assist them to apply the principles of positive behavior support throughout the school.
Being able to communicate improves a child’s self-confidence, ability to interact with peers and family and his or her control of the environment. It can also help to overcome behavioural problems caused by the frustration of not being understood. We will work with a child's Speech Pathologist to support any programs, devices, or recommendations. We seek training and advice from qualified professionals to supplement our own skills.
We use sensory integration techniques to assist with the processing and organisation of information received through the senses, particularly the touch, movement, balance, vestibular and proprioception systems.
Music and Dance are appropriate and powerful tools to promote integration of students’ sensory motor systems, to develop communication skills and to enhance emotional and social development.
