Children with ASD may have severe communication and socialisation problems. Music and Dance are appropriate and powerful tools to promote integration of students’ sensory motor systems, to develop communication skills and to enhance emotional and social development.
Through the many modes of music and dance; singing, playing instruments, listening and responding, following sequenced steps and rhythmic movement; a child engages in multi-faceted developmental activities that facilitate self-awareness, attention, group co-operation and interaction, fine and gross motor development and, in time, provide a means of self-expression, thus building confidence, discovering new skills and engaging their imagination.
Classes are structured to suit the student with some being at class level, some in small groups and some individual classes. Students are led through listening to instructions, directions, body placement, rhythm and beats, musical games and remembering structured routines. Our students are very keen participants and look forward to their music and dance lessons.
